hua hua introduces bamboo as a versatile tool for floor-based play: body manipulation, breath control, restriction, and creative connection. Participants will learn how to integrate bamboo into rope sessions with a variety of goals.

This class blends technical handling with embodied awareness, focusing on intentionality, communication, and risk management as you explore the possibilities of bamboo for support, restriction, and sensation.

You Should Know:

  1. Students tying should be very comfortable with single & double column ties, fluent in basic frictions (x-friction and munter hitch or equivalent), have experience communicating while tying, and strong knowledge of safety & nerve risks
  2. Students being tied should be confident in communicating through intense sensations and have a strong knowledge of safety and nerve risks

You Should Bring:

  1. 3–5 long ropes plus (8-10m) plus several shorter lengths

ABOUT the instructor:

hua hua is a Shibari artist, teacher, and the founder of Borderline Shibari, a platform to share and nurture the "ambiguous culture" of shibari. She began her teaching, performing, and organizing work in Shanghai in 2027 before relocating to Europe, where she continues to teach, perform, and create across mediums.

hua hua's teaching style emphasizes intentionality, expression, and emotional process over a single tradition or style. She views rope as a bridge - between inner and outer, elevated and underground - and integrates influences from BDSM, physical theater, and intercultural collaboration into her work. hua hua’s work has been featured in places like Shibari Study, Queer Rope Festival, Espacio Nos and in collaborations with SIRLION and untitalb.
