This workshop is the first of the 3, in this workshop we will go over safety, what kind of harnesses you can us to suspend with, rope you can use, the importance of knowing the risks and how to reduce the risks, we will talk about the different practices when it comes to uplines, hard points and some of the hardware you can use and why some use them. We will go over the preliminary suspension knots that will get you ready to do suspensions.

In this workshop you will need to know the single and double column tie with ease and grace. You must have gone to at least one shibari workshop on the basics of shibari and know the ground work of shibari.

Beginning Shibari Suspension Workshop Series: Level 2

In this workshop we will be covering harnesses that can be suspended. I will be going over why not all harnesses can’t be suspended and how to make some suspendible, even if they originally are not able to be suspendible.

I will be teaching chest harnesses and hip harnesses in this workshop!

For this workshop the pre-requisite is you must know the single and double column tie comfortably and you must know how to tie safely and how and where to and not to tie. I won’t be covering this in this this level…anyone coming must already have an understanding and the groundwork of shibari, if you come and don’t know this information and you don’t you won’t be able to participate at all.

We will be practicing in pairs, so if you want to make sure you have a partner bring one…find my FIND A PARTNER PAGE. Otherwise if we have an odd number you will be able to watch or practice on yourself. But this is not a self suspension class.

This workshop is the foundation for level 3

In the level 3 Shibari Suspension Series

We will cover the knots and how to do a suspension. We will be getting your rope bottoms off the floor in this workshop.

Pre-requisite: You must know at least one suspendible harness for the top and the bottom of the body. I won’t be teaching this. If you don’t please come to my level 1 workshop.

These are not intended to be an 'everything you need to know about' suspension since this subject deserves a lot of deserved attention. Assuming you have some solid basic skills, these classes will help you improve your suspensions more safely and create a solid foundation upon which you can build. With this series you will start to see your own mistakes and be able to correct them as well as tie with more confidence and creativity!

I will show you some tips and pointers that will support you on your path in shibari and make you shibari practice easier and be more in flow, which can make a huge difference for yourself and your rope bottoms.

I will be covering some rope bottom skills also, so bottoms, you won’t be left out in learning. As there are skills to know as a rope bottom and these are important to practice safety for both you and your top!

This series can greatly speed up your progress but please know that there is nothing that replaces one on one tutoring in leaving suspensions…and this will give you a great foundation to it. And don’t forget to keep practicing the basics, without the basics suspensions aren’t safe. Many feel suspensions are the most advanced part of shibari…and suspending was started as a way to perform.

If you are not already familiar with complex ties and have some experience please go back and practice those, don’t speed things up by doing suspensions…it is good to take your time in learning all shibari has to offer!

Come by yourself, with a partner, multiple partners, or friends! All are welcome.

You can watch, tie yourself or pair up in class.

You will have a chance to switch from top to bottom- tie and be tied or if you only want to tie or be tied you are welcome to do that! Though it will be taught where you can switch.

Bring:

~Mat/blanket

~Layer for temperature changes

~Rope- Jute, Hemp, or Nylon - I have Jute for sale

~Water

*We do have some mats, blankets, pillows, safety sheers, and rope to borrow or buy. If you want to buy rope, please let us know 2 days in advance.

Wear clothing that allows you to feel comfortable cotton (not spandex/non slippery fabric), and able to move with ease, preferably clothes that fit close to your body. This is not a play party, it is a place to learn. And having exposed arms and legs sometimes is best or having cotton yoga clothes.

Please bring anything that you need to support you to be comfortable. We urge you to not wear scents.

Feel free to bring friends!

Heather Rhea Dawn is a healer at heart and brings that element along with her tantra background into shibari to enhance sensation, play, exploration and a dynamic connection between top and bottom. She came to shibari 5 years ago after she was tied for the first time. And from the moment, she went to her first class of shibari, and the moment tied someone, she was hooked! She fell in love with shibari! She has was trained by a Master in Asia and is always still learning more! This is what she is dedicated too...not only teaching shibari, doing sessions, but showing the world how shibari can heal. She brings her tantric background into her work to support people to heal on all levels and to bring more consciousness to this art.
