Rope Bottoming 101: Safety, Preparedness, Placement and Tension
Rope Bottoming 101 is an introductory class focused on the physical and practical skills of being in rope. This class prioritizes awareness, communication, and sustainability - finding and sharpening the skills you already have to build a safer, more sustainable bottoming practice.
We’ll break down how rope actually feels on different parts of the body, what kinds of sensations and risks come from placement and tension choices, and how bottoms participate actively in safety + risk mitigation before, during, and after a tie. While this class centers the experience of being tied, the content is valuable for anyone who wants a safer, more informed rope practice - regardless of role.
You're already ready, we promise.
You’ll Learn:
What “good” vs unsustainable rope tension feels like from the inside
How rope placement impacts nerves, circulation, comfort, and longevity
Language for identifying, sharing, and negotiating your desires
How to prepare your body (and your brain) for being tied
Tools for noticing, naming, and communicating safety concerns
You Should Know:
No prior rope experience or tying partner are required.
Students of all roles are welcome! Bottoms Up is a philosophy, not an identity requirement.
You Should Bring
Comfortable clothing you can move and breathe in
Curiosity about your own body
A notebook if that’s your thing
Bottoms Up is a series of classes taught from the bottom's perspective. While they center skills for being in rope, the content is applicable for all rope nerds, regardless of their role(s).
