Cuddle Party

What happens at a cuddle party?

A cuddle party is a non-sexual event where participants can practice communication, boundaries, and platonic touch. These events are structured with a welcome circle and a set of group agreements to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for everyone. We focus on the importance of consent and connecting with others. Attendees wear pajamas or comfy clothes and are encouraged to ask for what they want and practice saying "no" to what they don't.

Our Welcome Circle is a mini-workshop!

We begin with our Welcome Circle. This is where we create the structure and safe space for the cuddles and socializing to follow. It is also where we break the ice and get a group of strangers to feel comfortable with one another. This is where you and other Cuddle Party participants can…

  1. Introduce yourselves,
  2. Learn about the Cuddle Party philosophy,
  3. Get oriented to the Cuddle Party Agreements,
  4. Practice the Cuddle Party communication skills
  5. Experience a few fun activities about consent

The next couple of hours are filled with self-directed connection. Now it is time for you to ask for what you want, say yes and no to requests and invitations, cuddle according to your desires and comfort (or just talk if you prefer), connect with fascinating people, “cuddle mingle,” and, ultimately, relax into the flow of a playful and respectful social environment. Some participants like to cuddle in groups, others prefer one-on-one. Some engage in quiet conversation for a time. Some choose not to cuddle at all. All of this is welcome and encouraged! Cuddling can mean feet against feet, full-body hugs, head-rubs, back to back, spooning, or something else — it is, indeed, up to you.

Our Closing Circle

At the end of the event, we share a brief closing circle to communicate some final thoughts for the road. We encourage you to bring your learnings with you as you travel forward, and give everyone a chance to share any parting thoughts with the group. Participants are often in a state of cuddle intoxication at this point, and feeling a sense of connection with the group that they never would have anticipated at the beginning of the event. Oxytocin is good stuff!!!

Welcome, safe, consensual touch is proven to calm the nervous system, reduce stress, and enhance self-esteem and a sense of belonging. Cuddling won’t solve all your problems, but it sure helps!
