Pride just got a little more twisted, in the most tantalizing manor. You haven't been to a gallery opening quite like this..
Deviance Debut is the newest labor of lust from the bay area's queer art scene. Presenting & elevating our deliciously defiant subculture through a new kind of kinky third space.
Hosted at the new & bustling 6000 square ft queer & poc owned dungeon Paradox (1310 Mission St), the show opens the dark room doors to an audience both foreign & familiar. Filling all the gaping holes of the art world in a convenient location just a couple blocks from the Civic Center Bart.
Queer kinky sexuality has been a site of degregation, scapegoating, censorship, and moral panic for centuries. But really... they just couldn't get enough. We're leashing & leading the underground to the surface and no longer settling for the uncouth presumptions of a hoity toity mainstream.
Existing under a period of attempted suppression, with government art funding banished for anything remotely gender subversive (how pathetic). Grassroot shows build counter momentum and entice the public to directly support the paths working artists pave. Crafting a new intimacy between visionaries and their admirers.
With 40 lgbtqia2+ artists involved in the show, Deviance Debut represents a cross section of big name career artists to first time gallery show talents. Raw, real, and dirty this queer cacophony invites spectators into the mix. Exalting the kinky concept that voyeurism is in fact participation.
The bravery and bold expressions of our artists bring to conversation the taboo, tantalizing, twisted, and troublesome. Leaving no seedy corner unlapped. Mediums range from watercolor, photography, woodwork, linocut, abstract, cyanotype, glass, metalwork, embroidery, film, collage, oil, charcoal, textural work, etxxx. Truly showcasing the diversity and talent of our local scene.
Opening show ONLY offers attendees the chance to shape the show directly with each purchase. When you claim something from our public dungeon as Your personal piece & you'll get the chance to bring out fresh perspectives. Choosing how we fill up the room you've just made. Shifting the eros and enabling more work from your favorite artists to be spotlighted.
This is your chance to connect with community, meet the folks on the frontlines of the sexual revolution, & see new sides of yourself and others represented generously. Creating care and understanding where shame & seclusion has been all too prevalent.
Plus we're making art accessible with select prints available for as low as $25 so everyone gets the chance to be a part of something monumental. Bespoke one of a kind original work too demands your respect and adoration. With all your dollars going directly towards the folks creating the art and making the exhibition happen.
Opening show will include dungeon walkthroughs, artist meet & greets, hors d'oeuvres, discussion groups and more. This show is open to all 18+ and is completely free to attend.
Exhibition runs throughout the month of Pride with our closing show June 28th, 1-5pm. With art shifting and cycling with the ebbs and flows of tension and release, cum multiple times for new experiences as positions and portraits shift.
So indulge in our profound perversion this Pride. You'll leave with fantastic new possibility and invite a playful subversion into your space with each piece that stokes your passion or steals your heart..
