Elements of Sensation Play

Temperature play, blindfolds, textures, and more! This workshop explores sensation as a pathway to pleasure and discovery. Sensation play can be low-pressure, accessible, playful, and fun. All you need is curiosity and creativity to start tonight, but we’ll also show you some exciting tools available at Lotus Blooms to enhance your play.

Together we’ll brainstorm ways sight, touch, taste, scent, and sound can be intentionally brought into your sexy, sensual, playful, or kinky time to enhance any session. Think mirrors, textures, flavors, smells of leather or candles, sounds of implements, dirty talk, or music.

So much is possible when you play with the senses! Add a dash of playfulness, a pinch of anticipation, or a sprinkle of pain to create your personalized recipe—your rules, your fun!

Curious about kink in general? This is a great place to start!

Our Lotus Blooms sex educator, Jax, brings you this workshop designed to help you find new and exciting ways to experience more pleasure.

  1. Learn how to enhance erotic play by awakening all five senses.
  2. Get creative inspiration to use everyday tools to enhance pleasure.
  3. Receive a hands-on introduction to sensation tools available at Lotus Blooms.
  4. Discuss how intentional pain play can be part of sensation play (but doesn’t have to be!).
  5. Learn how to build an introductory kink scene through sensation exploration while navigating safety, consent, communication, and awareness.

What to expect from this workshop:

This workshop will include interactive opportunities, but participation is always optional. Join us with a partner, date, or friend—or attend solo and bring your new knowledge back to a partner or potential future lover!

During this workshop, you’ll see introductory demonstrations of a variety of tools and types of play that fall under the sensation play umbrella.

This is an educational and experiential class, but it is not a sexual class. Folks will have the opportunity to try out sensation tools, but everyone will remain clothed. The focus of the content will be on learning about anatomy, pleasure, techniques, props, toys, and getting in touch with your desire.

Who is this workshop for:

Workshop tickets are sold individually, and each person attending will need a ticket. You may attend solo or bring someone. All relationship dynamics and configurations are welcome - come by yourself or with your partner, triad, or friend! If you come with someone, there will be opportunities (but no requirements) to share what fantasies, desires, and concerns/fears you have.

This is for the kinky-curious folks and also for people who simply want to find fun ways to "spice it up" in their own bedrooms.

What to bring/wear: There will be an opportunity to try on harnesses over clothes so we’d recommend wearing pants if you’d like to do so.

The Fine Print: Lotus Blooms’ workshops are open to people of all genders and sexual orientations, individuals, couples, or groups. Due to state law, attendees must be over 18 to come to the workshops or shop in the store. Workshops are currently held at Ms. Moxie's Moon Shop, 102 N Fayette St, Alexandria, VA 22314, one block from Lotus Blooms. Workshops generally run about 60 minutes plus time for Q&A. Afterwards, attendees will be walked over to shop Lotus Blooms with a 15% discount.

If you are running late:

Because the topics of sex, sexuality, intimacy, etc are so personal and often taboo in our society, our staff and educators work very hard to create events that make people feel comfortable learning and sharing. Much of the working agreements and standards of behavior tend to take place at the beginning of our short workshops. As such, if you arrive more than 15 minutes after the workshop is scheduled to begin, we will not be able to allow you to join this time around and your tickets will be forfeited. We hope that this helps to encourage people to come on time and enjoy the entirety of the event, and create a comfortable space for everyone attending!
