Exhibit Summary and Relevance in 2024:

This immersive exhibit delves into the robust 1984 conversation between James Baldwin and Audre Lorde, exploring their divergent perspectives on race, gender, and sexuality. Through a series of visual artworks, including a central Intersectionality Wall, split portraits, and symbolic imagery, the exhibit brings to life their dialogue on themes like the American Dream, Womanism, feminism, and Black power.

In 2024, the exhibit's themes are especially relevant as society continues to grapple with systemic racism, gender inequality, and LGBTQ+ rights. It revisits intersectionality’s foundations, emphasizing Womanism's role in advocating for Black women’s experiences. By placing these issues in the context of ongoing social justice movements, the exhibit challenges visitors to engage deeply with complex conversations and reflect on their own roles in the fight for equality. Through its art and dialogue, KinFolkz's exhibit serves as both a reminder of past struggles and a call to action for today's challenges. KinFolkz's art highlights how Audre Lorde and James Baldwin's conversation resonates today, offering critical insight for activists and creatives battling systemic oppression, racism, anti-LGBTQ+ violence, and misogyny.
