Exposed and Entwined: Emotional Play in Rope

In this class, we’ll explore the layered experience of exposure in rope—where eroticism meets vulnerability. Through intentional placement of the body—arms bound behind, chest lifted, hips open—we create shapes that stir feeling, sensation, and psychological response.

Inspired by the Japanese tradition of shuchinawa (shame and exposure rope), we’ll look at how this practice has evolved in Western contexts to highlight the erotic thrill of being seen, held, and revealed. Whether you’re drawn to the psychological edge of vulnerability, or the boldness of exhibition, this class invites you to explore the emotional terrain that exposure can unlock.

We’ll focus on partner communication, consent, and creating safe containers for intensity—both soft and bold.

We recommend bringing or wearing outfits with buttons or snaps, or other loose fitting clothing, or dresses/skirts.

Undergarments must remain on per studio policy.

Prerequisites: Floor series (Rope Handling, Knots and Frictions, Body Mechanics) or equivalent. Must know single column tie and basic frictions.

This class is geared toward tying pairs, but solo participants are welcome.
