Plura

Frictions, Flow, and Movement w/ @Sluttyhands & @Dancehalldyke

This class focuses on rope handling for beginner to intermediate rope students.

We will discuss tension and flow, half-hitch and munter-hitch frictions, and moving rope and moving your partner to create stable structures and communicate intention. Practice drills are key to successful rope handling.

This is a mixed level class suitable for beginners who have had some experience with rope, but is also useful for intermediate students who want to practice their tension and flow.

To get the most out of this class...

  1. The Rigger must know how to tie a single column.
  2. The rope bottom should be prepared to pay attention to their bodies and communicate about their experiences and needs.
  3. Both the Rigger & rope bottom must have prior experience with basic rope safety, consent, and negotiation, and be able to communicate successfully with each other.

What do you need to bring?

  1. 3-5 x full length rope (26~30ft)
  2. Some shorter / half ropes if you have any.
  3. You & your bottom's aftercare needs.

We will provide mats to tie on, snacks, and water. We also have limited amount of loaner rope!

Do I need a tying partner to attend?

Yes. You will need a tying partner to practice with. If you are a switch, pair up with your switch-y friends! You learn the most if you could experience both sides!

You may come solo and audit the class. We will encourage solo attendees to pair up, but we can not promise you will find a tying partner.

Common Q&A

Do I need to bring my own rope?

The house will provide jutes for everyone to use. However, it is strongly advised to bring your ropes as they are limited.

What should I wear?

For Riggers: Anything you feel the most comfortable in. You will feel warmer than your bottom, so don't put too many layers on!

For bottoms: Tighter clothes are the best. For example tank tops and yoga pants. If you wear bras, please remember to take them off or wear wireless bras for upper body ties.

Will I be able to learn to suspend someone?

No. This class will be a groundwork focus.

Meet our instructor @Naturnalturn

@Sluttyhands (he/him) and @Dancehalldyke (she/her) are Bay Area based rope artists. Sluttyhands has been tying for twelve years, Dancehalldyke for six. They both primarily tie in fairly traditional Japanese styles and are heavily influenced by Barkas and Addie. Their tying together typically focuses on going to dark and vulnerable places and playing with a lot of emotions, and can range from fast, violent, and rough, to creepy and distant, and occasionally even to sincere and loving. They want to offer you new ways of exploring each other with rope, to show you concrete tools beyond patterns that allow you to relate and communicate with each other effectively and have the scenes you’ve always wanted to have.
