House of Braids: a POC-exclusive Rope Jam

In collaboration with VoxBody Studio, Kinky People of Color (KPOC) presents HOUSE OF BRAIDS.

KPOC Bay Area invites you to our POC-exclusive Rope Jam: House of Braids, every first Tuesday at VoxBody!

If you identify as a Person of Color, join us as we build community, socialize, and do rope!

House of Braids is a safe place for us to explore the art of rope and express our truest selves free from the stigma of society, the fear of oppression, and the judgment of those that would look upon us as objects, others, and who would use our identities against us. This is a space to live in any gender, sexual expression or disability on the spectrum, and to not worry about the one thing we are constantly reminded of in other spaces: our race and ethnicity.

6:45pm: Doors open for check in.

8:30pm: Doors closed/no late entry after 8:30pm.

7:15pm: Opening Circle followed by a short intro lesson for those new and looking to learn more. As the intro lesson begins, the tying floor will also open for all to use freely.

9:45pm: Wind down begins, and Rope Jam ends at 10:00pm.

* All levels are welcome and encouraged to participate.

* House of Braids is a welcoming space for solo or partnered attendees.

* We offer a beginner class at each of our events for those new to rope. Attending the class is a great way to meet someone new and practice together.

Petite refreshments such as snacks and tea will be provided throughout the night.

Loaner rope is available for the event for floor ties only. Those doing suspension should have their own rope and gear.

Please note: VoxBody is an 18+ space. HoB will check ID's at check-in for age verification of ALL attendees.

* Please note that while we love and appreciate our allies, this is a POC exclusive event.

Who are People of Color (POC)? People of Color...

1. are visible minorities (POCs); and/or
2. have 1 or more parents who are visible minorities (sometimes called mixed race); and/or
3. have the lived experience of systemic oppression based on race, ethnicity, culture, mother tongue, place of origin, or heritage (have experienced social or systemic defined racism).

All intersectionalities of POC are welcome if you are a LGBTQ+ or a person with a disability AND POC, You. ARE. welcome.

Kinky People of Color: Bay Area (KPOC) was founded in spring 2016 by Augend and JayBookhouse to provide a fun, safe, social space for people of color (POC) and their allies. The goals of the group are as follows:

- Host happy hours every month in the Bay Area, primarily in Oakland

- Introduce new POC and their allies to the Bay Area BDSM scene

- Share personal experiences with other POC and their allies in the Bay Area BDSM scene
