CONTACT IMPROV MOVEMENT LAB WORKSHOP

with Richie Villa + Elie Prana

A hybrid informational + integrative workshop including educational talk, skills demo, space for open practice, play + guided peer to peer mentoring on the activities or other forms of play centering the workshop topic.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:

Contact Improvisation combines connection, playful energy, exploration, and collaboration into an improvised movement practice. From its roots in martial arts and modern dance, we will explore our relationship to gravity + momentum as we move, lean + fall with ourselves and others in this partnered movement practice. Movement patterns reflect activeness at all levels, from standing to rolling on the floor, while welcoming participants to discover a level accessible to them.

This movement practice involves active exploration of negotiating our own + others’ boundaries around touch + physicality to collectively create a communal environment of trust, care, integration, and discovery for expanding horizons within movement + connection.

WHAT TO ANTICIPATE

• Physical connection

• Discussion, exploration + definition of safety, consent + boundaries

• Space to feel into your own body, energy + intentions

• Guided exploration of connection with self + others through movement

• Open space for labbing what you learned + creating your own unique movement + connection styles

• Support from mentors + peers to guide you into deeper connection with your own body, movement, and alignment with your intentions

WHAT TO WEAR + BRING:

• Wear comfortable cloths for movement (athleisure wear, active wear, or loose flowy garments are great. Cottons/linens, and layers can be supportive.

• Bring your own water, towel, snacks, and journal if you’d like to take notes or reflect on your experience.
