Latihan: A Blindfolded Moving Meditation of Trust, Surrender, & Connection

Move intuitively, explore presence, and connect without sight. Trust your body, release control, and embrace the mystery of the moment.

Latihan is a powerful, intuitive practice that invites you to reconnect with your body, release judgment, and fully embrace the present moment. Rooted in the Subud tradition from Indonesia, this spiritual exercise invites participants to move freely and authentically, guided only by sensation, energy, and instinct. In this modern adaptation, we introduce blindfolded movement to deepen the experience and help you drop into the mystery of the now.

The Power of Blindfolded Movement

Blindfolding takes away your vision, which in turn amplifies your other senses. Your awareness of sound, touch, and the energy in the space around you increases dramatically. Moving very slowly and with intention, you start to feel more deeply connected to your body. Each step, each gesture, is a response to an inner impulse—perhaps a stretch, a turn, a deep breath—guided not by thought but by pure sensation and intuition.

As you move through the space, you may come into contact with others. The experience of being in close proximity to someone else, while blindfolded, is unlike any other—it’s about tuning into the energy that connects you, rather than focusing on physical appearance or verbal cues. You’ll move together, side by side, in quiet, flowing motions—sometimes brushing past one another, sometimes holding still, allowing your energies to merge in a silent dance.

Touch is light, respectful, and fully clothed at all times, emphasizing connection through presence rather than physical attraction. Throughout the practice, two facilitators will be present and observing to ensure safety and provide support if needed.

This practice is designed to help you surrender to the unknown. You let go of control, trusting your body’s instincts, and moving through the space with no expectation or agenda. In doing so, you may experience emotional release, a deeper connection with others, and a profound sense of self-awareness, all while embracing the mystery of the moment.

The Practice is Not Erotic and Not Sexual

Touching for the intent of arousal is not allowed in this practice, and our warm-up activities (without blindfolds) will help set this tone. Latihan is not about sexual connection. There is no nudity or explicit touch. It’s about connection through energy, not physical attraction.

What to Expect

Arrival & Grounding: We begin with an opening circle to set the container for the practice, introducing consent guidelines, explaining non-verbal communication, and moving through warm-up activities to build trust while creating a safer container.

Blindfolded Movement: Once the blindfolds are on, you’ll move freely to music, allowing your body to guide you. As you engage in spontaneous movement, you may connect with others, but all interactions are grounded in respect and consent. The practice is non-verbal, allowing you to experience connection beyond words and judgments.

Emotional and Physical Release: Latihan can be an emotional journey, as it can bring up old feelings or hidden blocks. The practice provides a space to release, integrate, and heal.

Closing Circle: After the movement portion, we’ll gather in a circle to reflect and share insights. You may also participate in a co-regulation practice to help ground and integrate your experience.

The Benefits of Latihan

Deepen Self-Awareness: Latihan helps you connect with your body and your emotions on a profound level. Through this heightened self-awareness, you can identify unconscious patterns and start to shift them.

Embrace Vulnerability: The blindfolded nature of the practice fosters an environment where vulnerability is welcomed, and connection happens through authenticity, not appearance or expectation.

Build Resilience: Moving with the unknown builds trust in yourself and others. You learn to navigate discomfort and uncertainty with grace.

Embody Freedom: Release limiting beliefs and embrace your authentic self. Latihan invites you to move without attachment to your identity or judgment of your body.

Connect with Source and Others: Through intuitive movement, you open yourself up to the life force energy that connects all of us. Whether through solo movement or subtle connections with others, this practice fosters a deeper connection to yourself and the collective.

What to Wear

• Light, comfortable clothing (avoid anything with zippers or buckles)

• Dress in layers, as the temperature in the room may fluctuate

• Avoid heavy jewelry to minimize distractions

Who Is This For?

Latihan is ideal for those ready to dive deeper into self-exploration, release limiting patterns, and step into a more authentic version of themselves. It’s especially powerful for people already familiar with practices like meditation, tantra, or yoga, though it is open to all levels of experience.

Who This Is Not For

Latihan can evoke intense emotions and physical sensations, so if you are currently in a heightened state of distress or have unresolved trauma, it may be best to consult with a mental health professional before diving into this type of experience.

Key Guidelines

Consent is Crucial: Because this practice involves potential non-verbal touch, we will clearly explain consent guidelines before starting. It is essential that everyone feels comfortable, so please communicate through touch and seek support if needed.

Embrace Mystery and Spontaneity: Let go of control and allow your body to move without expectation. Trust your instincts and welcome what arises.
