The Assemblage of Areté is proud to once again be marching in this year's Pride Parade!!!
Many of our members identify as some flavor of LGBTQ+, and all of us identify as allies, and so we're excited to celebrate the lives of our LGBTQ+ heroes for being their awesome selves, and to proudly announce ourselves to the community as the most welcoming "church"-like community around... and you're invited to celebrate with us!
This event page is for those who are explicitly interested in marching in the parade as part of our contingent- if you're just looking to cheer us on from the sidelines, no need to pay any attention to this Meetup event.
DETAILS:
Location: We will be meeting at 9am as contingent #140, in Zone N. This is roughly near the SW corner of Park Blvd and Lincoln Ave.
Parking: If you plan to drive to the event, we strongly recommend that you park at the Fashion Valley transit center, near JC Penney. Many of us will meet there at 8:30am, and then take MTS bus 1, 20, or 120 for $2.50, or you could order a rideshare from there.
There are other options, for instance you may chose to park at the Old Naval Hospital on Park Blvd near President’s Way and take a free shuttle (however lines are long and parking is very limited so get there early for this option).
In general, do not expect to park anywhere near the parade or the parade staging area. Also, do not expect your cell phone to have good service! Make a plan to just meet us on Park Blvd near Lincoln Ave, one way or another!
Attire & Supplies: Make sure to wear clothes and shoes that are comfortable for walking in, and consider bringing a reusable water bottle. Maybe bring a snack, and if you're feeling generous, snacks to share. We'll provide everything else you need, including sunscreen!
New to the group: No worries if you haven't met with our group before, we'll be happy to have you join our contingent and help us carry a flag or a banner! We'll have a good sized group already, but the more the merrier! Just say hi and introduce yourself!
Plan: We'll assemble in our area around 9am, and then eventually we'll begin the 2.4km march. There may be a bit of waiting however before we actually start marching though, so we'll be bringing food to share for breakfast and we'll just have a fun time hanging out until it's time for our contingent to get on the road!
At the conclusion of the march, we'll be setting up a table booth near the entrance to the Pride Festival, near the western side of the Laurel St Bridge. Feel free to hang out with us there too, we'll be having a good time, talking with the public about Aretéanism!
This is going to be a great time all day long! Come celebrate your pride in yourself, your friends, and your heroes while helping San Diego learn that communities like ours exist!
Be Excellent to Each Other, and Party On!
