Mental Health First Aid for Kinsters

This class will be held in person at the Folsom Street Community Center at 1286 Folsom street, San Francisco CA.

Mental Health First Aid for Kinsters

Class Description

Have you ever wished you knew what to do when someone you cared about was freaking out? Do you worry about how to respond if someone becomes triggered during play? This workshop will give you tools to help people stabilize when in crisis. These skills are things everyone can use when they see someone suffering from mental health issues. This is not a replacement for therapy or long term care, but rather these skills help people get out of crisis and back to baseline. This workshop can also help you get a sense of what you might need in a crisis or for after care. We’ll discuss different trauma responses, how to help people get out of dissociation and back into their bodies, and how to help people feel safe after something scary has happened. We’ll also discuss basic suicide assessment, how to know when you need outside help, and how to get that help.

Presenter Bio

Aza (they/them) has been working in the mental health field since 2014. They are an EMDR therapist, specializing in trauma work for LGBTQ+ folks. They’ve been in and out of the Bay Area kink scene for an (in)decent amount of time. Aza is trained in suicide and mental health crisis response, and wishes more people understood how care for someone in crisis. They also wish therapy was accessible and affordable for everyone. Their hope is that this training helps us as a community care for each other.
