Monthly Roundtable for Polyamory/Non-Monogamy

The Brooklyn Poly Roundtable is a monthly discussion-centered, community gathering for those who want to learn about and share experiences/perspectives on topics related to non-monogamy and polyamory. Join us for a discussion of this months topic:

  • The Money Talk

Money touches a lot of the practical corners of non-monogamous life, but it can also bring up surprisingly deep emotional questions. This month we’ll talk about financial planning and coordination in polyamorous and other non-monogamous relationships: what happens when partners live together, share households, co-parent, or imagine retiring together. How do people structure things like rent or mortgage payments, childcare costs, savings, or long-term planning when more than two people may be involved? Or even just who pays for dinner, or vacations?

We can explore the realities of wealth and income differences between partners. How do couples or polycules approach cost sharing when people earn very different amounts, or when some partners share a household and others don’t? What feels fair, what feels sustainable, and how do those decisions affect relationship dynamics?

Let’s also dig into the communication side: the vulnerability, expectations, and sometimes awkward conversations that come with money. What tools help people navigate these discussions with care, transparency, and respect for everyone’s needs?

Plus, we have a special guest! Derek is a money coach helping polyamorous and chosen family households. He will say a few words before we break into small groups to give us something concrete to discuss.

As always, this space is about learning from each other, holding our different experiences with care, and letting ourselves be shaped by the wisdom that emerges when we gather. We grow through listening, sharing, and remembering that we’re not doing any of this alone.

Approximate Timeline:

• Doors Open - 7 PM

• 7-7:30 - Arrive, get your name tags, say hi, place your drinks/snacks on the table

• 7:30-9 - Group discussion

• 9-10 - Mingle and socialize (and help us clean up the space ;))

Please consider making the $10 donation to help us cover the room rental and contribute to our snack budget. If you can't afford it, come anyway! Feel free to bring a little treat or beverage to share if you feel inclined. We try to have a few snacks available, but more is always welcome.

PLEASE NOTE: This meetup is about creating a safe space for sharing ideas and experiences and having productive and compassionate discussions with old and new friends. It is not a cruising or pickup event, so please do not come with those expectations or intentions as they can make folks uncomfortable and feel unsafe. Help us keep this a safe and supportive space!

Our group values ethics, inclusion, growth and compassion as a means to support each of our unique journeys in developing non-traditional relationships. Please be prepared to bring those values, along with an awareness of the fundamental importance of consent and a respect for all others if you attend our events.

We look forward to welcoming everyone interested or curious about non-monogamy and polyamory :) See you at the Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture (269 4th Avenue, between Garfield and 1st Street)!

Clara & Marco
