November Discussion: Finding Your People

Join us for our monthly discussion, co-facilitated by Megan Vaudry and Mel Cassidy.

Our topic this month is "Finding Your People!"

Since it's our first discussion after a long hiatus, we thought it would be good to talk about how we find our people — because it's rarely as simple as meeting someone and going, "Oh you're polyamorous, I'm polyamorous, we should date!"

Some things we'll be talking about:

- What are the challenges when you don't have people in your life (aside from partners and metamors) who understand and support polyamory?

- What values inspire the way you do polyamory?

- Do you have to limit your relationships and friendships in the polyamorous world to people who have the same values?

- How do you find friendships with people who are polyamorous, or who understand what it means to be polyamorous?

- In a city that is going through a lot of development and changes, how exactly do you meet other polyamorous folks, whether it's for dating, or friendship?

This month we are meeting at The Tipper Restaurant on Kingsway, in their private room.

Evening Outline:

6:30: Arrive, socialising, order food & drinks

7:00: Discussion opens.

8:15: Discussion wraps up.*

*please note: The Tipper officially closes at 8pm, but they're allowing us to stay late to wrap up our discussion. We have to be out by 8:30pm.

***About Vancouver Poly 101***

Vancouver Poly 101 is an online and in-person group, located on Coast Salish territories, specifically the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, in Vancouver BC, whose purpose is to connect individuals, primarily in the local area for discussion, education and friendship.

We acknowledge and recognize the role of colonialism in disrupting Indigenous relationships, including the punishment of non-monogamous intimate relationships.

The group was created for and by people who are exploring or committed to relationships that fall outside the societal norms of monogamy.

Activities of the group include, but are not limited to:

- A Facebook group

- Monthly, in-person facilitated discussions, sometimes with guest speakers

- Sharing of resources and media

- Creating a safer space, both online and in-person, where friendship and mutual peer support can flourish

- Member-organized in-person events
