Partials: Exploring Loaded Ties Through Movement w/ @Anoxia

This class explores the mechanics and creative possibilities that come from taking load from the body into uplines. We’ll look at how “loaded ties” can bear weight, shift balance, and open up opportunities for expressive movement.

Through a mix of lecture, demo, and hands-on tying, we will...

  1. Practice transitioning between positions near the ground
  2. Explore counterbalance
  3. Harness tension to create dynamic shapes and emotions.

This session is accessible as an introduction for those just starting to experiment with suspension, while also offering a deeper dive into movement and scene-ing in partial suspension for those already familiar with uplines.

Prerequisites

  1. Both the Rigger & rope bottom must be familiar with the safety and common risk management in rope bondage.
  2. The Rigger must know how to tie a single column and a suspendable upper body harness that works for the bottom
  3. The bottom must be aware of their body’s needs and considerations when it comes to range of motion in joints and nerve sensitivity, and have the ability to communicate their needs when tied.

This class does not require extreme flexibility or strength.

Common Q&A

Do I need to bring my own rope?

Yes. If you dont have your own set of rope yet, this class is probably not for you.

Do I need a tying partner?

Yes. You will need a tying partner to practice with. If you are a switch, pair up with your switch-y friends! You learn the most if you could experience both sides!

What should I wear?

For Riggers: Anything you feel the most comfortable in. You will feelwarmer than your bottom, so don't put too many layers on!

For bottoms: Tighter clothes are the best. For example tank tops and yoga pants. If you wear bras, please remember to take them off or wear wireless bras for upper body ties.

Will I be able to learn to suspend someone?

We’ll be going over partial suspension involving 2 - 3 uplines to support some of the bottom’s weight. However, the majority of their weight must remain grounded throughout.

Meet Anoxia

@Anoxia (they/them) is a switch based out of Chicago, who started in rope in 2015. Over the years, they’ve had the opportunity to study in many different styles with educators in the US, Europe, and Japan. They present classes which go beyond patterns and rote memorization to teach underlying principles relevant to students at any point in their rope journey. Nox also currently serves on the NARIX steering committee. In play, their rope is often intense, creative, dynamic, and charged with emotional sadism.
