Polyamory 101 for Couples

An intro to ethical polyamory focused on communication, trust, and nonhierarchical relationships, open to couples and the curious.

Autonomy. Equity. Relationship strength. These are just a few of the traits that polyamory emphasizes. Couples working toward successfully opening in this way will experience trust, freedom, and a deepening of their bond.

During this class we will consider how couples can open their relationship ethically and compassionately, with an emphasis on communication and honesty. Violet Heart will examine styles of ethical nonmonogamy and polyamory; rules, boundaries, and agreements; disentangling and differentiation; how to find community; interacting with metamours; compersion versus jealousy; sexual health; coming out; partner communication; and much more. We will focus on nonhierarchical polyamory, but those who are curious about other styles will find that there is plenty to explore.

Although the class is aimed at couples interested in opening their relationship, it is appropriate for anyone who would like to learn more about polyamory.

Violet Heart (she/her) is a career librarian who is studying to be a marriage and family therapist. She is a member of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists and has been researching polyamory and living a polyamorous lifestyle for four years.
