Positional Problem Solving: Finding Challenge and Ease with Anoxia & fuoco

Anoxia (Chicago) and Fuoco (Massachusetts) will be in town for Folsom weekend and we are so thrilled to have them share a class at VoxBody while here!

This class will explore how the body (and gravity upon it) impact the distribution of load and the experience of pressure within harnesses. Students will leave with a better understanding of how to create both greater challenge and greater ease within their suspensions. This class is meant to be a collaborative class, in which riggers and models both use new language and ways of thinking about the body in rope to push themselves into uncharted territory.

Prerequisites:

For both people:

  1. A sense of boredom with traditional suspension shapes (ie: a regular suspension practice, for both bottoms and tops)
  2. Minimum of 1 upper body harness and 1 hip harness that you feel confident about within your tying pair

For folks tying:

  1. Upline management should feel like muscle memory

For folks being tied:

  1. Comfortable with sustaining suspensions in a learning environment
  2. Able to communicate critical information about your safety under stress
  3. Aware of your body’s needs and considerations when it comes to range of motion in joints and nerve sensitivity and position

Materials:

  1. 12-16 lengths of ropes, with at least 3 suspension uplines.
  2. Single point rigging hardware (carabiners or rings) including a cutting tool
  3. Doors will open at 6:45. Class starts at 7pm promptly. Doors closed/no late entry at 7:15pm.
  4. If finances are a barrier for your attendance, please email us at voxbody@gmail.com; we have limited scholarship observer spots available for this class!
  5. *Please read and remain familiar with our studio policies and etiquette page. If you have any questions or concerns please email us at voxbody@gmail.com

About the presenters:

Anoxia (they/them) is a switch based out of Chicago, who started in rope in 2015. Over the years, they’ve had the opportunity to study in many different styles with educators in the US, Europe, and Japan. They present classes which go beyond patterns and rote memorization to teach underlying principles relevant to students at any point in their rope journey. In play, their rope is often intense, creative, dynamic, and charged with emotional sadism. They have presented at cons like Ropecraft, Kinkfest, and Desert Bound, at weekend workshops around the US, and currently serve on the NARIX steering committee.

fuoco began her rope journey as a bottom in Phoenix in 2012 and shortly thereafter moved to London, where much of her early rope learning happened. Upon moving back to the US, she began presenting at cons and intensives around the country sharing her love of rope. As an educator, she's decidedly non-dogmatic in her approach to teaching. Her classes aim to help bottoms to better understand their bodies in movement, and to offer riggers the knowledge to adapt their tying to the unique needs of their partners. She recently stepped into the role of Director of Education for Shibari Study and is excited to think about shibari education in a new medium.

When she’s not doing rope, fuoco is a professional acrobat. Her dedicated study of the mechanics of the body make her especially interested in developing more comprehensive education informed by these practices. She's also a leftist who believes that kink is inherently political. She strives to bring her politics, her values, and an accountability for those values into her teaching spaces.
