Emotional Go-Bags: Emotional Survival Skills for Community Life with Ember Solaris (Online)

When everything goes sideways—when you're spiraling, panicking, overwhelmed, or seething—it’s not always easy to know what to do next. In fact, it can be downright impossible. That's where your emotional go-bag comes in.

This class offers a practical, psychologically-informed approach to preparing for emotional overload, conflict, harm, day to day spikes in stress, and community stress. We'll walk through how to build a personalized toolkit of skills and supports to help you survive high-emotion situations with more self-trust, less damage, and a clearer sense of agency.

We’ll cover:

  1. What an “emotional go-bag” is and why everyone in community life needs one
  2. Recognizing your personal warning signs of emotional escalation
  3. Strategies for self-regulation, containment, and decision-making under stress
  4. How to plan ahead for moments of crisis, reactivity, or harm aftermath
  5. When to take space, how to protect yourself and others, and when it's safe to re-engage
  6. The difference between emotional processing, regulation, and integration—and why it matters
  7. How to move from damage control to intentional care

Whether you're newer to the scene or have been in community life for years, this workshop offers skills to help you navigate stressful situations and emotional overwhelm with more grace, integrity, and resilience.

The class will be held on Zoom. The waiting room opens 15 minutes early at 5:45PM PST. Instruction begins at 6PM PST.

About the Instructor

Ember Solaris (Fetlife: @xSolaris) is a Sadistic D-type leaning switch and social scientist who infuses her passion for research into every class she presents. Drawing from extensive training in emotions, trauma, addictive behaviors, and relationship dynamics, Ember bridges evidence-based practice with her primal identity—fueled by an arcane fascination with blood, ritual, and transformative intensity. Whether demonstrating intricate sharps techniques, discussing neurobiology, or exploring the role of primal headspaces and erotic justice, Ember’s sessions combine depth, passion, ferocity, and ethical complexity. She collaborates with attendees to foster inclusive, intersectional learning environments, weaving curiosity and empathy into hands-on, immersive experiences. Ember carves spaces where participants can unearth their most authentic selves. A companion for those seeking both intellectual rigor and carnal exploration, Ember thrives in exploring new frontiers in kink and beyond. A queer, genderqueer nerd, Ember lives in the gray spaces and hopes to meet you there.
