Punching Above Your Weight: Suspending People Bigger Than You

goodmosttimes will lead this workshop designed to help riggers tie and suspend partners larger than them in ways that are easier, safer, and more graceful than "pull really hard." In this workshop, we'll address concepts of maximizing mechanical advantage and working with gravity to get your partner in the air with less effort.

Prerequisites:

Person tying

  1. a chest harness & hip harness of your choice that can be loaded from the side (i.e. a "gun-slinger" hip harness)
  2. a chest harness and hip harness of your choice that can be loaded from the back

Person in rope

  1. Some familiarity with being in suspension and the ability to communicate while in the air.

You Should Know:

  1. This is a Flight-level class: tying partners should already be familiar with creating uplines and lockoffs
  2. We will be working on single points - this workshop does not cover bamboo.
  3. Class will include hands-on tying, demos, and guided troubleshooting.

You Should Bring:

  1. A full suspension kit (enough rope for your selected harnesses + at least 4 uplines)
  2. Carabiners or other hardware suitable for a single-point setup
  3. A safety tool or strap cutter
  4. Willingness to adapt & trouble-shoot on the fly
