QueersDoRope QTBIPOC Exclusive Jam Sept

  • Hosted by Queers Do Rope
  • Los Angeles, CA -

Queers (noun) Do (verb) Rope (object) is hosting a QTBIPOC Exclusive Rope Jam at Devil Mask Studio every other month on the fourth saturday from 8pm-12am. QDR endeavors to de-center the white hetero-normative narrative in rope spaces. We aim to nurture and elevate those who are Black, Indigenous, People of Color AND Queer and Trans. At our event, QTBIPOC can connect with other rope enthusiasts, enjoy a safer, casual tying space, share some knowledge, and maybe even learn something new!

Please note this is a masked and vaxed event (meaning you must have a vaccine dated September 2023 or later, and we encourage everyone to have their current flu and monkey pox shot as well) and we encourage attendees to test before attending. Tickets must be purchased ahead of time through the Devil Mask Studio Website.

Water (sparkling and stil), tea, and coffee will be available. Mats, bamboo and small stools/cushions are available in the studio. A limited amount of loaner rope and cutting tools will also be available. Please bring any additional supplies you might need.

FAQs:

Who is hosting this?

  • Queers Do Rope is organized by Azure, they/them (@bleuwolferopes), Bernie, she/her (@ropesongs) and Sylky, she/her (@sylky.smooth), QTBIPOC rope switches who wanted to see more spaces for themselves and folx like them in the larger LA rope community.

Do I have to be both bipoc and queer/trans?

  • Yes

Can my non-bipoc or non-q/t partner join if they are accompanying me?

  • No. While your partner is wonderful (cause why would you choose someone not awesome?), please leave them at home for this one.

How much does it cost?

  • We have a sliding scale tickets: $10-$20. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Need financial support this month? DM us for a community comp ticket.

Will you be teaching me how to do shibari/will there be open practice space?

  • There will be plenty of time and space for folx to drop in and tie. The space includes hard points, bamboo and mats. Someone will be available to advise folx new to rope and we hope to foster an environment where community members share their knowledge with each other.

Is it okay to come by myself? Will you assign someone to tie with me?

  • We will not be assigning people partners for this event, but we encourage people to come even if they don't have a tying partner. We will have a short ice breaker and a board where folx can share their intentions and desires to tie or be tied.

I'm mixed, can I still come?

  • YES! We recognize that sometimes mixed folx feel odd or unwelcome, but this is your space too.

I'm a trans poc but not specifically black or indigenous. should I go?

  • YES! Please come! Anyone who self identifies as black or indigenous or a person of color or mixed as well as LGBTQ is encouraged to attend!

Are n95 masks required? Will vaccine cards be checked at the door?

  • You will have the option to either upload your vaccine card ahead of time or have it checked at the door. We ask that folx wear an n95, kn95, medical mask, or other respirator mask that filters air particles and protects against droplets and sprays. Additionally Devil Mask Studio has air purifiers in the space that will be running throughout the jam.

I can't make it to this one will there be others?

  • Yes, this jam will be every other month at the same time.

We can't wait to meet you!
