Learn Coptic stitch binding and make your own colorful sketchbook!
Learn to bind your own sketchbook using the coptic binding technique, which creates a book that opens completely flat. In this class, participants will create a mini-sketchbook from a rainbow of acid-free colored papers. In the process they will learn how they can make their own custom sketchbooks with any paper of their choosing.
The workshop will cover basic bookbinding vocabulary, tools, and techniques. All materials will be provided and students will go home with a unique sketchbook to fill with drawings, paintings, notes, or anything they can think of. Students will also keep an illustrated instruction packet made just for this class by Nathaniel.
This class is one of three workshops celebrating Pride Month at ARCH! Take two or more of them and you’ll win an ARCH tote with colorful, surprise art supplies inside! Check out the other two classes:
Queer Surrealist Collage Zines with Sean Owens
Go With the Flow Improv Painting with Gem Mahusay
Finally, please join us for FREE Pride crafts on Pink Saturday (June 28) from 12-4pm! You’ll have the opportunity to create your own custom pronoun button and to make a rainbow twirler to bring to the Pride Parade the next day.
