Shibari 201: Hip Harnesses

🕑 4:00 - 6:00 PM (Doors Open @ 3:45 | Doors Close @ 4:10)

📍 Devil Mask Studio - DTLA

🎟️ $50 per person | Memberships accepted

Hip harnesses are a conundrum. They’re essential for supportive suspensions, but their success is entirely dependent on personal preferences and anatomy.

In this class, we’ll break down the structure of the hips and thighs, explore techniques for building sustainable harnesses, and play with a few patterns that balance form and function.

You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of why hip harnesses are so tricky - and more confidence in adapting them to your goals and your partner’s body.

We’ll cover:

– Lower-body anatomy for safer (and more effective) bondage

– A bouquet of hip harnesses, ranging from high-agency to “maybe this IS bondage”

– Our approach to individualizing patterns - iterating on standardized patterns to reach a personal, sustainable solution.

This class is part of our Shibari 201 class track, taught on the second Sunday and third Saturday of the month.

Shibari 201 classes focus on the technical and conceptual underpinnings of harness design: how we make patterns and why they work. You don’t need to know the pattern to attend - you'll leave with new tools, new options, and a better understanding of what your rope is doing.

You Should Know:

– Students tying should be comfortable tying a non-collapsing single-column cuff. Not sure what that means? Join us for WHY KNOT or a Shibari 102 workshop.

– Some familiarity with frictions - as taught in Shibari 102 classes - will be helpful.

– Students should be comfortable giving and receiving feedback.

You Should Bring:

– At least four pieces of rope (8 meters/30ish feet long) to tie with and a cutting tool

– A notebook or something to take notes on

– Curiosity and a collaborative attitude
