Spiritual Shibari 101 - Sacred Practice for Intimate Connection

Most rope bondage teaching focuses on technique. Unfortunately, after the class many people feel overwhelmed and soon forget what they learned.

Instead, this workshop focuses on consciousness and connection through the power of an open heart. This will transform how you relate and is an experience you will never forget!

Shibari means "to tie". Kinbaku means "to bind". In this class you will learn about Musubi: "The tie that binds together." This is the key to a truly connected rope experience.

This is not "kinky play."

This is sacred practice.

What You'll Learn

The Foundation: Musubi (結び) - the tie that binds together. Not just physical rope, but energetic connection. Without this, you're just tying knots. With it, rope becomes a vehicle for presence, trust, and deep spiritual connection.

The Practices: We'll use four complementary practices to prepare your body, heart, and mind:

• Taichi - Relax your body, find your balance
• Qigong - Ground your energy, gather qi (life force)
• Sheng Zhen - Open your heart, merge with love
• Aikido - Embody presence, confidence and connection

The Application: This class will teach you how to apply basic rope skills while being grounded in spiritual practice to create a container for deep intimacy and sacred connection. Simple ties, performed with intention and awareness, turn into a profound experience.

You'll learn fundamental rope techniques and experience them four different ways—first with balance, then with grounded energy, then infused with love, then with full embodied presence. By the end, you'll understand that Shibari isn't about what you do with the rope, but who you're being while you do it.

Practical Details

All experience levels welcome. Beginners will gain a solid foundation. Experienced practitioners will deepen their existing practice.

Partners optional. Come solo or with a partner. Solo participants practice ties on a chair and benefit from the embodiment practices.

What to bring: one 8-meter length of rope, preferably jute.

About Your Teacher - Edward Willey
