Study Club September: Jealousy

Are you looking to learn new skills to help you build better non-monogamous relationships? Do you want to get new ideas and perspectives from other ENM folks on the challenges you are facing? Are you excited to nerd out about relationships? Join us!

Let’s learn together via a monthly, group-driven discussion. Each month we’ll look up resources pertaining to an ENM topic: readings, podcasts, even Reddit threads, and unpack what we’ve found. At the end we will take suggestions for next month's topic. Think of a cross between a book club and a support group; we’ll seek out new tools and techniques relevant to the attendees’ challenges.

Meetings are in-person at 7 PM on the first Tuesday of each month, near uptown Oakland. As we are a young group, we are trying different venues out, so bear with us while we get settled. Everyone is welcome, regardless of familiarity with non-monogamy. The event is free to attend.

Topic (September 2025)

We’re making our first attempt at discussing jealousy. The group noted that there’s a difference between envy of what another person has, and fear of losing a connection because of replacement. These are often interrelated. Any resources or discussion is welcome approaching either of these two aspects.

Resources

Make suggestions in the event chat, and I’ll edit them into this list!

  1. Polywise ch 4: “Exposing the Cracks in the Foundation”
  2. More Than Two sect 2.8: “Befriending the Green-Eyed Monster”

Venue

We have been growing rapidly - thanks to everyone for such inquisitive and generous participation! Rene is currently searching for a new venue for the upcoming event, so the time and location may change a little bit. I’m prioritizing the first week of the month, and proximity to transportation in Oakland. I’ll update this as soon as I secure a venue.

Safety and Privacy

These events are intended to encourage safe, honest, and vulnerable conversation between strangers. Keep identifying info or personal stories within the group. Participants are encouraged to exercise best judgment and speak up for best standards around homophobia, transphobia, fatphobia, xenophobia, racism, and all other sorts of pervasive otherings.

This is not a place to cruise for hookups. No jerks.
