Shibari is a form of rope bondage originating from Japan. It is an artistic style of tying rope around the body in intricate patterns. Shibari, also known as Kinbaku, has gained a lot of popularity in recent years, with new practitioners learning and practicing this skill all over the world.
Shibari has its roots in hojo-jutsu, which was used by Japanese law enforcement hundreds of years ago as a form of restraint. It evolved into an erotic art form during the Edo period (1603-1868). Currently, Shibari is practiced as an expression and exploration of intimacy and connection between two people.
The primary materials used for shibari are natural fibre ropes such as jute or hemp that can be purchased from specialty stores or online retailers. The ropes range from 4mm to 8mm in diameter depending on your preference and skill level with thinner ropes being easier to manipulate into complex shapes but providing less support for heavier people or complex positions. Additionally, a variety of tools such as scissors and needles might be required for certain elaborate ties and should only be handled by experienced practitioners who have been trained on safety protocols when using sharp objects near skin.
When done correctly, shibari can provide both psychological stimulation and physical pleasure at the same time. A skilled rigger can tie someone up using techniques that create pleasant sensations while creating beautiful patterns that look like artwork on their partner’s body - often referred to as “body art” or “kinbaku art” – without causing any pain whatsoever!
